I hope you had an amazing Monday. I know that the start of the week can bring about different challenges. And those challenges can often lead to some frustrations, and sometimes those challenges and frustrations can cause us to feel insecure. Sometimes, at least for me anyway, I will run into a challenge, especially if it’s a challenge I have never ran into before, and it will make me feel so insecure about whether or not I can handle it. I will start feeling like there is no way I can handle this. I am not smart enough, I am not strong enough, I don’t have what it takes to figure this out, and then I will start feeling overwhelmed and totally insecure. Now I know some of you men are reading this and saying, I am a man, I don’t get insecure. To which I would reply, yeah right, there is no way you have always felt confident about every situation in the midst of every challenge all the time. Because what I know to be true, is that the enemy loves to attack men in this area. He will do it every chance he gets, so this is something that all of us men deal with. Now I know some men struggle with this more than others, but the fact remains we all deal with it.

I am reminded of a story in the scriptures where Elijah is dealing with a challenge that he is not really sure if he can handle or not. See the king’s wife wants to kill him. Now this king’s name is Ahab and his wife’s name is Jezebel, and this story can be found in 1 Kings 19, (I encourage you to go read it, because it’s an amazing story.) And in this story Elijah had just killed 450 prophets of Baal, which were the prophets of Jezebel’s false god. Now right after Elijah kills them, Jezebel sends a message telling him she was going to kill him. And Elijah gets insecure about whether or not he can handle this challenge, and so he runs from it. He is frustrated and insecure. He starts crying out to God saying he is the only person left in all the land that loves God, that he is all alone. But God shows up and reveals Himself to Elijah and lets him know that He still has 7,000 men that serve Him. God also tells Elijah He is going to rescue him from Jezebel. And of course God comes through for him. See in this story Elijah became insecure because he took his eyes off God and put them on himself and on the challenge. And because he put his focus on the challenge, that challenge became bigger than God even though he had just witnessed the power of God only a few verses before. This shows us the power that our insecurities can have over us if we focus on our challenge.

7 “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or dismayed before the king of Assyria and all the horde that is with him, for there are more with us than with him. 8 With him is an arm of flesh, but with us is the Lord our God, to help us and to fight our battles.” And the people took confidence from the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.

You see Real Men, if we keep our eyes on the Lord, no matter what challenges we are facing, we can have confidence in the power of His might. Insecurities are real and they can become real powerful to the point of causing us to run from the challenges we are facing, but the thing is God says we are more than conquerors through Him who strengthens us. See we can allow our insecurities to reveal the power of the God we serve, or we can allow them to cause us to be dilapidated. The choice is ours. So, Real Men, today be confident in the One you serve. He has not brought you to this point in your life to fail you now. He is for you, and if God is for you, then no one and nothing can stand against you.
