Heal the Broken-Hearted

This morning I wanted to continue with the declaration of Jesus’ ministry, “The Lord has anointed me…he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted.”  It is a passage that Jesus reads in the synagogue, indicating to the people that He is the messiah, the savior of the world.  One of the main platforms of Jesus’ ministry was to heal those suffering from a broken heart.  The anointing of Jesus is to lift up those who are broken and crushed in spirit.

PSALM 34:17-18

17 “When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears
and delivers them out of all their troubles.

18 The Lord is near to the brokenhearted
and saves the crushed in spirit.”

The human spirit is created to dream, to imagine, and to desire.  These hopes and dreams become a part of who we are as a person.  When love is lost and dreams become lost, it can create a wound that threatens to break our heart in two.  It is a weight that threatens to crush the human spirit.  As hope is extinguished, the foundations that hold who we are as a person, and how we see ourselves, is placed under enormous pressure.  Without restoration, time cannot heal; it can only harden and calcify the wound.

Jesus came to restore hope to every human heart.  As the Holy Spirit begins to speak words of life, hope begins to wrap the human heart, binding it back together.  It is through the transformational power of Jesus Christ that we find a new hope.  It is not only another chance, but the hope of a new identity in Him.  Jesus promises forgiveness for all the faults and sins of the past.  He promises to be with us always; we will never be left or forsaken.  Through Him a new relationship with God is established, and God’s plan to prosper us begins to work in our life.  He removes the tumors and splinters, knits back together the heart that has been torn in two, and removes the weight of the world, that has crushed our spirit.  The anointing of Jesus Christ, the yoke of oppression is destroyed.  Today may your heart be fully healed by the power of Jesus Christ, and may your spirit once again stand up straight looking to the hope that is found in Him.
