He woke up to the sound of his alarm beeping. In one smooth motion he reached over turned off his alarm, slid his feet out of bed and onto the floor. He grabbed the clothes that he had laid out the night before and put them on. Just before he put his phone in his pocket he felt it buzz. Lifting it to his face he read the notification he just received. After reading the notification he continues to fall into the rabbit hole that is the Facebook news feed. He looks at the clock, and he is now running late. He races out to the kitchen to grab something quick for breakfast.  As soon as he reaches the kitchen he hears one of his smoke detecters chirp. The batteries are dying. He changes his direction back to the sound of the chirp to change the battery. Realizing he doesn’t have time to take care of it he walks to the door puts his shoes on and grabs his keys. Pulling the door closed behind him, he makes his way towards his car. As he sits down in his car he realizes he forgot to grab any breakfast. He puts his keys into the ignition and turns the key. Nothing.

There are so many things in this life that can distract us from what we are trying to get done. We all have, the proverbial squirrel or shinny object, that pulls our attention away from the very thing in our hands.

Especially as Christians, we need to make sure we are keeping our eyes fixed on Him and not let anything distract us from what he has called us to.

13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

We need to staying focused on what the prize is. We need to stay focused on the task at hand. Whatever it is that God has called us too, if it is Him that has called us, it all leads to Jesus. Jesus is the prize.

Although the distractions may happen and we can feel pulled in other directions we need to recenter our focus on Jesus. Most of the time the things that distract us are not even bad things but it is more of the priority we put things in that make the distraction happen.

So men lets pray today that God show us how to prioritize our lives for the least amount of distractions so that we can keep Jesus at the center.
