WHAT'S UP REAL MEN!!!
I remember in 9th grade when I first began to really seek after God, being a Christian was becoming the “cool thing” to do. It seemed like all the popular kids in school were turning to God and it was almost like this movement began.
Our group of Fellowship of Christian Athletes was growing. See You at the Poll was packed like never before. Youth group was filled with so many different people. It was amazing.
As I continued to grow deeper, I noticed that the “hype” seemed to be dying off. What was once a packed room full of people for FCA was down to single digits. Then I realized , the “fad” that was Jesus had died off.
Now I’m not judging anyone or saying God wasn’t moving in that time. But what I am saying is that Jesus isn’t a fad. A fad is defined as, “an intense and widely shared enthusiasm for something, especially one that is short-lived and without basis in the object's qualities; a craze.”
22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. 24 For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. 25 But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.
26 If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person's religion is worthless.
Following Jesus is a lifestyle. Becoming more like Him is a life long process. Becoming doers of the word is a continual task. A task that can be done with joy. James goes as far to say if you’re not doing what you’re hearing in the Bible, why even read it.
So following Jesus cannot be something that we do because everyone else is doing it. We have to follow Jesus because we are called by Him. Not taking Him off like He’s a shirt out of style, or trading Him in like a car for a newer model. Jesus was and is and always will be Jesus.
The opposite of a fad is a standard. So men, let’s do what we hear in the word of God and let’s make Jesus the standard in our home, our community, and of our life.
