WHAT'S UP REAL MEN!!!
It was a hot summer morning and we had just entered the gates. The excitement was oozing out of my daughters smiles. They stood beside the big sign right inside the entrance that read “The Pittsburgh Zoo” as their mom held up her phone to capture the moment. This wasn’t the first time being at the zoo, we have been going at least once a year since our oldest was born.
As we walked further down the path and under a bridge, our daughters led the way. Their pace went from walking to running in an instant as they screamed, “Tiger.” The funny thing is, as excited as they get, I feel I get just as excited. I love the zoo. Say what you want about the “cages”…sorry, enclosures…not being big enough or how the “animals aren’t in their natural habitat.” Sure that may be true but all I know is I get to see some amazing animals up close and personal.
I get excited to see these amazing creatures because truly I am in awe and wonder every time I see a lion and their huge paws pacing back and forth. Or how an otter swims on its back as it holds its food on its chest. Not to mention getting to see the height of a giraffe as it reaches for the top of the trees.
I know not everybody shares in this excitement of a zoo. But here are these creatures that we otherwise would never be able to see. And for me I can stand outside the glass, looking in on the penguins as they dive under water and get a new revelation of who God is.
I remember one time I was even brought to tears (not sobbing, slobbery, runny nose tears. But eye watering, ball in your throat tears) watching a tiger, as the overwhelming realization that He created all of this, smacked me in the face.
3 When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,
4 what is man that you are mindful of him,
and the son of man that you care for him?
5 Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings
and crowned him with glory and honor.
6 You have given him dominion over the works of your hands;
you have put all things under his feet,
7 all sheep and oxen,
and also the beasts of the field,
8 the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea,
whatever passes along the paths of the seas.
9 O Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
Being someone who creates things I have an amazing appreciation for God the creator. We serve a God who created something, out of nothing. There is no one else who can or ever will claim that because not only was the person created by God but all the materials being used were created by God. But yet we are still on his mind. Amazing!
We need to be men who can stand in awe and wonder of a God who created it all. So as we step outside today, let’s thank God, that in the midst of creating all the animals, He already had a plan for us.
