WHAT'S UP REAL MEN!!!
It was a cool summer morning. The dew was still on the grass. My 13 year old self slipped on my sneakers and pulled the laces tight. Today was the day we started. My Dad and I were building a barn.
As I walked over to meet my Dad, there was a bounce in my step. The excitement flowed through my body. Not only was I spending this time with my Dad but I was also building something that, in my young mind, was like the empire state building: Firm, solid, substantial. It would stand there on my parents property as a place and home for egg laying chickens and a beef cow every several years. So not only was it solid but it served a purpose.
I noticed my Dad stacking the boards high and laying out all the tools and a smile came across my face. This was it!
Now I knew in my mind, I had no idea what I was doing. But one thing I knew for certain was my Dad knew exactly who, what, where, when, and why to do everything we were about to do.
And I knew he would teach me along the way.
The closer I got to my Dad the more joy filled my heart. And as I took that last step, I said, with the most confidence a 13 year old boy could muster, “Let’s Do This!”
20 Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, 21 equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.
God equips us to do the things he calls us to do. He provides all the materials and tools we need to do the work. All we have to do is pick up the tools and use the materials. And not only does he equip us, He also works along side us and inside us to accomplish His work. He doesn’t just give us the tools to do it and leave us to it. Just like my Dad did, God teaches us along the way. Providing insight to how we can accomplish the tasks he has set before us.
Psalms 100:2 tells us to “Serve the Lord with joy.”
So as we are doing the work set before us, with the tools He provides, we should do it with joy. No matter what it is we are doing, we can do it with joy because the Great Shepherd is with us. You personally. Wanting to spend time with you. Wanting to use you for His glory.
So Real Men, let’s pick up the hammer, with joy in our hearts and build something monumental with our Father today.
