WHAT'S UP REAL MEN!!!
11 Besides this you know the time, that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed. 12 The night is far gone; the day is at hand. So then let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light. 13 Let us walk properly as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in quarreling and jealousy. 14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.
In a world that is constantly trying to pull us away from living for Jesus, Paul encourages us in our passage to walk in the understanding that our salvation gets closer to us every single day. Meaning, from the time we have given our lives to Christ, to this day today, Jesus is closer to returning for those who have given their lives to Him. And if that is true, that every day we get closer to the day the Lord returns, then the opposite is true as well. Meaning, that those who haven’t given their lives to Christ are getting closer day after day to the day they will be judged by their creator for not giving their lives to Him. This reality can be very scary, because right now we are living in the time of grace. All those that repent, the blood of Jesus will cleanse them from all unrighteousness, they will receive salvation and will be rewarded with eternity in heaven with the King. However, there is coming a day when the grace of God will no longer be accessible, but rather people will receive the judgment of God. So Paul says because that is the reality we are faced with, and no one knows when the day of judgment is coming, stay awake, do not fall asleep to the schemes of the enemy. Cast off all the works of darkness and put on the full armor of light, meaning follow Jesus and live according to His commandments day after day. Do not COMPROMISE your walk with Jesus for some cheap thrills.
I remember this one time when I was at a family members party and they were all drinking. Now I don’t drink, because I am not going to compromise my walk with Jesus in order to have a few drinks. Now family knows I don’t drink, I don’t say anything to my family or anyone else for that matter about drinking. The way I figure it is that scripture tells us not to be drunkards, which means we should never get drunk ever, and if we do we are sinning against God, and so the way I see it people have to answer to God for the way they live, they don’t have to answer to me so I don’t say anything. Anyway, I was at our families party just hanging. They were drinking and I wasn’t so they decide that I needed to drink with them, so they start bugging me to drink and of course I say no, but they kept asking me. After 3 times I finally say I will not compromise my walk with Jesus to have a drink with you. This of course made them mad at the time but I didn’t care, because scripture is clear…do not give any room for the flesh to compromise my walk. But I will say that several months later those same family members told me they respected me because I didn’t compromise and till this day they call me for spiritual advice and guidance. Now if I would have given into them and drank with them, they wouldn’t be calling me when they are struggling with life.
Paul is telling us in those scriptures, understand your salvation and don’t compromise it with drinking, sexual immorality, pornography and/or fighting. Instead stay clear of those things so that your salvation is walked out every day all day. So Real Men, today walk in the light as He is in light and do not compromise your faith for momentary satisfaction. Jesus has strengthened you to live for Him, so live in the power of His might!
